Mr. Floyd did not deserve to die. His death was shameful and horrific. But he doesn’t deserve to be turned into a “national hero” either.
believe that what happened to Mr. Floyd was wrong. He and his family deserve justice. I hope and pray they receive it.
But here’s where everyone starts losing me…when they treat this man like a hero and somebody kids should look up to and emulate and when they turn him into a martyr, with “Royal” funerals and prestigious military-like treatment.
This is absurd, insulting, and manipulative. Let’s be real here…the man had an exorbitant amount of methamphetamines in his system when he was arrested and he was passing a counterfeit bill. That’s not to say he deserved his fate, of course not, but he’s also not deserving of this pomp and circumstance and hero-worshiping fanfare. Hardly anybody is, so Mr. Floyd is in good company.
As a woman – a mother – I was horrified when I (recently) discovered that Mr. Floyd had once held a gun to a pregnant woman’s stomach and threatened to kill her while 5 of his friends ransacked and robbed her home. I hear he pistol-whipped her as well. As any mother out there knows, there is a very unique and very strong protective instinct that takes over when you’re pregnant and to think a man who is being hailed a “hero” used that as a weapon against a woman is sickening to me beyond words. Yes, I know he served 5-years for that stunt, and he was “trying to turn his life around,” but based on the drugs in his system, I think he was likely still struggling with getting completely back on track – and that’s okay, but it’s reality.
It is fine to feel bad that Mr. Floyd died. I know I do. I still can’t watch the video and seeing photos of that cop kneeling on him makes my stomach turn. But that does not mean that he should be turned into a “national hero.”
I know I am not alone in this thinking.
So, you can imagine how incensed folks were when Speaker Pelosi presented the Floyd family with a special “service flag.”
Scores of Americans were outraged after seeing a picture of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) presenting an American flag to the family of George Floyd as though he had been killed fighting for the country.
The photo, which was seen posted on various social media sites, was confirmed as genuine by BizPac Review after locating it as part of a collection involving the family of Floyd on Pelosi’s official Twitter feed.
“Philonise Floyd’s heart-wrenching testimony to @HouseJudiciary left its mark on us all. May this flag, which flew over the Capitol on the day of his brother’s murder, serve as a symbol of our shared commitment to securing justice for George & all victims of police violence,” she wrote on her post containing the photo.
Let’s focus on getting Mr. Floyd and his family justice and retraining any officers out there who need it and reform any rules of engagement that are causing more harm than good, and let’s leave the. political stunts and manipulation for another day.
