In Pearl River, Louisiana, near Slidell, the river has already reached minor flood stage. It is forecast to reach major flood stage in that area this weekend.
Deputies with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Department began staging high water vehicles Monday in case evacuation is ordered. There are no evacuations along the Pearl River in Louisiana currently.
According to the National Weather Service, homes near Pearl River or Gum Bayou in Bayou Gardens and Magnolia Forest neighborhoods are at risk of flooding.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said in a Monday press conference that he is preparing to move resources south, identifying at-risk counties from Copiah to Hancock.
Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness communications director Mike Steele said the office is communicating with local leaders to prepare. Steele also said the department is ready to respond to Mississippi as well, if its help is needed.
